Talking about Suicide in Mental Health

Every 40 seconds someone dies by suicide (WHO 2014). More than 90% of persons who die by suicide have an associated mental disorder (Holmstrand et al., 2015). Recognizing the relevance and relationship of suicide and poor mental health is key to prevention. Engaging in an open and constructive dialogue with people at risk is a first step to breaking the stigma.
 
We asked four leading experts to share their perspective on suicide in mental health. Here’s what they had to say.
